The companies are represented by former Pfizer executives, who filed suit against the Food and Drug Administration, the government and the U. Department of Health and Human Services.
The deal, which has been described as "nons-automatic" for the company, represents a significant milestone for Pfizer.
The suits allege that the company failed to properly monitor and alert doctors to possible health risks that could be posed by Viagra and other drugs sold by CVS, the maker of the popular impotence drug.
"This is a very serious issue," said John Shearer, a Pfizer spokesman.
The suit also alleges that the company's failure to properly warn about the dangers of the drug caused it to overprescribe Viagra and other similar drugs, which have been blamed for more than 3 million heart attacks and strokes in the United States.
The suits allege that the company failed to provide appropriate warnings to physicians on the use of its erectile dysfunction drug and failed to provide adequate warnings to consumers about the dangers of such drugs, including those marketed as "pills."
